All’s Calm on the Night Watch

After the day we had, I’ve come back to sit with Rudy for a few hours.  Just as we left this afternoon, they backed off most of the medications, so when I came in he had his eyes wide open and was looking around–I only wonder if he realizes what kind of day he had.  Within a minute of my coming up to him, all the alarms started to go off as his heart rate, blood pressure and breathing all went up.  Excited to see you too, champ!

In the hours since, he’s calmed down and now the numbers look beautiful.  About an hour ago, Dr. Lee came in and was considering some medication to lower the blood pressure, but before they could get it in the drip it dropped on it’s own.  I think he fell asleep.  So now, the room is tranquil and I think he might be lulled into deep sleep by the bubbling of the chest drains–that’s right, the polar (I mean “generic”) bears are back, but now he’s got a twin set and they rigged them with some kind of bubbling water effect so it sounds like a babbling brook in here.

In case your curiosity is piqued, here’s what generic bears look like:

  2. I love it! I love that you’re doing better, Rudy! We’ve been praying for you. Praying for that calm day today, and that soon enough you’ll be in your mama and daddy’s arms. Lots of love!

  3. Praise God!!!!

After seeing the drain equipment, I believe the confusion of the “generic” bears is a result of the almighty dollar. Adding color to the bears would require an additional color. Maybe you should get a brown sharpie..

  4. Rudy is in our prayers. At loss for words and do not think that there is anything to say, just know that I LOVE YOU!

  5. Glad to hear Rudy is doing better… will keep praying. For what it’s worth, I doubt he’s aware of what he’s been through. My mom told me after her heart surgery that she had no recollection of my being there, and probably less of all the things that were done to and for her. That’s a good thing, I’d say. Hanging in there — maybe today will be the nice, calm day with only good news!

  6. Dear Trish and Rolf….thank you for your amazing updating of Rudy’s treatments and daily condition and improvements. We love hearing the positive tones of your messages…along with the humor that you inject.

We are sure praying for precious Rudy and your family thru these challenging times….He is a BEAUTIFUL boy…and the miraculous treatments that are available in our medical world is a huge blessing to precious little patients like Rudy.
We can’t wait to meet him…
    Our love and prayers..
    Pete and Gerd
