Rudy’s Birthday

Dear Rudy,

Today would have been your 11th birthday. I lay here nearly motionless, unable to celebrate you today the way I would like, which seems to add to my heartbreak. I wish I could spend the day doing your favorite activities, spending time with your favorite people, and eating your favorite foods. Instead, I’m forced to navigate today…still…quiet…with only my memories of you…how valuable those memories are to me now.

Know you are in every nook and cranny of our family’s existence. The reminders of you that surround us are both subtle and not-so-subtle…

I’m thinking of you, missing you, and sending my love always, big boy.

  3. Happy Birthday sweet Rudy!
Trish, I don’t know how to make sense of this, I’m certain I’m not alone in this thought. All I know is that love is what heals us, helps us, rescues us, gets us through the crud and more. Love. Right now and always, love.
ALS has taken your sweet voice and your movement, but it will never take away any ounce of love you feel or receive. You know this, I’m not saying anything new. I’m possibly reminding myself. Either way, it doesn’t matter because all that matters is that love is the most important thing. I love you and I love Rudy and I love The Lord! I know loving others is one of your strengths too. You love so deeply and so fully and so does Rudy. Without judgement or fear. I’ve learned so much from your sweet boy, Rudy. I will miss him for all of my days as I know you do too. I am praying for your heart today to be so full of the joyful memories of Rudy that there is no room for the frustration and pain of the present.
Happy Birthday, Rudy! I hope you’re eating sweets and running around! I love you so much!

  4. Have been thinking of your dear, sweet boy all day. I still miss him walking into my Sunday School class. Still miss his smile and laughter, his spitty hand and love of all things pizza and daddy. Thinking of and praying for you and the family, always. Love and hugs to you all.

  6. My Dear Friend. We all love you so very much. Like his Mom, Rudy lit up the rooms he entered with his smile. You must remember and focus on what an impact Rudy had on thousands of people. His BLOG alone, touched so, so many people, who read every line with a touch of his and your spirit in every word. We are forever changed just knowing YOU and Rudy and your entire family. I wish I could take away the longing and pain of today. Just know, his life was a true gift to all of us, and is missed so very much. You are LOVED beyond words.
